Phillip) Close More share options: Email the author Follow on Twitter While defense remains a pressing need, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton recently expressed a desire at the league’s annual meeting to come out of the draft with a young offensive lineman. And the Saints have quietly checked out a few linemen during the predraft process, including one of the top prospects. Utah offensive tackle Garett Bolles recently had a private workout with the Saints, according to a source familiar with the situation. The Saints also extended an invitation to Bolles to come in on a predraft visit, but Bolles’ full schedule prevented him from accepting, the source said. CBS Sports and NFLDraftScout.com project the 6-5, 297-pound Bolles as a first-round pick, and he is regarded as one of the top two offensive tackles in the draft with Wisconsin’s Ryan Ramczyk. Bolles has made the rounds on predraft visits with the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers, according to multiple reports. An athletic left tackle, Bolles posted a 4.95 time in the 40-yard dash, which ranked as the second-fastest time among offensive linemen at the NFL Scouting Combine. Bolles was a two-time junior college All-American at Snow College before transferring to Utah in 2016, where he became a first-team All-Pac 12 selection in his only season at the FBS level. The Saints are conducting due diligence along the front five and recently brought in Bolles’ teammate, offensive lineman Sam Tevi , for a predraft visit. Additionally, the Saints kept tabs on Bucknell offensive tackle Julien Davenport throughout the predraft process; had dinner with Michigan guard Ben Braden before the school’s Pro Day; met with Western Kentucky offensive tackle Darrell Williams before the school’s Pro Day; had a formal interview with Illinois State guard Cameron Lee at the Combine; and an informal interview with Tennessee-Chattanooga guard Corey Levin at the Combine.
